Individuals strive to be the first to break news, to post photos proving “they were there,” to beat another friend in a social game, etc. Brands that mirror such activity will prove more relevant to fans. By acting like a friend first and foremost, brands will collect – and ultimately engage with – more people.”...

Wendy’s sneaky social media campaign was super creative and even more effective: “The effort, which promotes a new mid-size burger called the W, revolved around a game show on Twitter using the [email protected] (The six referred to the open slot on Wendy’s menu, which would be filled by the new burger.)
